Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis
in Movement Therapy
This is a preliminary course introducing students to Laban Movement Analysis in Movement Therapy .
Topics include: History of Laban, Movement Analysis techniques, incorporating Movement Analysis in clinical work, Introduction to Barteneiff Fundamentals in Movement Therapy applications.
This course provides an introduction to Movement Analysis techniques and how integrating them into Movement Therapy accesses the body-mind connection through movement. It provides a language for describing the non-verbal.
Movement experientials, ‘somatic check-in’ and Kinesphere will be introduced as a way of exploring expressivity and emotion in this emerging Somatic field. An integration of embodiment and non-verbal communication of emotion will be explored through Laban Movement Analysis applications.
This level of understanding of movement analysis techniques is used to support the practice of Somatic Movement Therapy and essential to further studies in Somatics and Dance-Movement Therapy. The practical experiential workshop assist students’ understanding of mind–body integration.
The course requires:

30 hrs of pre and post workshop self-study (undertaking research and readings on the various topics)

3 hrs of workshop attendance OR private mentoring option

3 hrs of student lead movement experientials

3 hrs of Virtual online learning through discussion groups

Self-practice of the various methodologies after attendance at the practical experiential workshops
